On 26-27 June we opened our doors to visitors at our new museum space at Prestonpans Town Hall for the first time. Over the two days, our team was supported by volunteers from the Alan Breck’s Regiment re-enactment society as we welcomed 120 people to a special “Orders of Battle” exhibition. The exhibition, supported by the Clan Event Fund and Bòrd na Gàidhlig, features information boards on the clans and regiments which made up the two armies at Prestonpans in 1745, beneath name banners arranged in their order of battle and beside our 1:1 ratio armies of paper soldiers. The re-enactors talked with visitors about the clothing equipment of the soldiers, whilst visitors also had their first chance to see the early progress of the Town Hall’s refurbishment.

Thanks to all those who came along and asked so many fantastic questions. We’re looking forward to many more such weekends as we move closer to the day when we can open the hall with a more permanent exhibition once the refurbishment is complete.

Special thanks to the volunteers who came to make the event possible.
