We are delighted to announce the first of our Jubilee Room exhibitions for 2024: Capturing the Capital: the Jacobite Seizure of Edinburgh.

The exhibition tells the story of the events leading up to the Jacobite occupation of Edinburgh on 17th September 1745, and how the attempts to defend the city failed.

Visitors will also be invited to answer the critical question: did the Lord Provost deliberately let the Jacobite army in?

Capturing the Capital features two sections of the Prestonpans Tapestry, and opens on 3rd February.
