Description

This book is The Definitive Guide to The Prestonpans Tapestry and the stories of those who created it for the Nation.

Bonnie Prince Charlie’s audacious campaign in 1745 to regain the crown of the United Kingdom for the Stuarts immediately entered the Scottish nation’s folklore. The campaign’s high point was of course the Prince’s spectacular Victory over the redcoat army at Prestonpans.

The Prestonpans Tapestry, presently the longest in the world 104 metres, embroiders the Prince’s story from its origin in Rome in 1744 to that Victory on September 21st 1745. More than 200 stitchers across Scotland, south of the Border, in France, australia and the USA volunteered to create this magnificent work of art. Over some 25,000 hours they made some 10 million stitches and this volume captures its true beauty. But this volume does more. It offers carefully researched historical notes and short biographies of each of the embroiders telling how and why they wished to share in this significant project.
