Our latest Jubilee Room exhibition pulls together the many threads of our Beyond the Battle research project, which has been supported by Historic Environment Scotland.

The exhibition looks at the people and the places which made up the battlefield community of 1745, from the grand houses of Preston, Prestongrange and Seton Palace, to the local churches and the residents which made up their congregations. It also explores the potential political divisions within the community, looking at who supported the Government and who might have inclined towards the Jacobites.

As well as display panels, the exhibition also features a number of artefacts including an early 18th century shoe buckle found in the area and a number of engravings and photographs giving us an idea of the appearance of Prestonpans at the time of the battle and the conditions in which its inhabitants lived.
