“Orders of Battle: the Clans and Regiments of Prestonpans”

Exhibition and Town Hall open days

Find out about the clans and regiments of the rival armies which fought at the Battle of Prestonpans in 1745, with this special temporary exhibition exploring the different types of soldiers who fought for and against Bonnie Prince Charlie at his famous victory. Alongside newly commission interpretation panels, 5,000 paper soldiers will be formed up for battle, and costumed volunteers will help explain the clothing and equipment worn. Visitors will also be able to see the early progress of the Town Hall’s refurbishment, and find out about the future plans. Local people are also being invited to share stories and photos of events and activities at the Town Hall as part of a special memory collection project marking 125 years since its construction. A one-way system will be in place and visitors are requested to wear face coverings in line with government guidelines.
