JAMES III AND VIII DECLARED KING AT MERCAT CROSS
On 17 September 1745, Bonnie Prince Charlie and his Jacobite army entered Edinburgh. One of his first acts was to proclaim his father King of England and Scotland ? James III and VIII.

The event is being recreated by the Battle of Prestonpans Heritage Trust to mark the start of a four-day programme of events celebrating the anniversary of the famous Jacobite victory.

REAL PRESTONPANS BATTLE INSPIRES FRINGE PRODUCTION
Everyone's heard of the Battle of Culloden ? where the heroic efforts of Bonnie Prince Charlie and his Highland warriors finally came to a tragic end.

But Fringe production, The Battle of Pots ?n? Pans, focuses on the start of that campaign, September 1745, when Highland hearts were full of hope and ambition, and recoat soldiers uneasy.

STUDY SHOWS BATTLE OF PRESTONPANS CENTRE WILL WORK
Iain Gray, local MSP and Shadow Minister for Tourism, today (26 July) welcomed research which shows that a proposed visitor centre at the site of the Battle of Prestonpans is economically viable and could attract over 70,000 visitors a year.
